Celebrity Cruises added another ship to its award-winning fleet this week: The Celebrity Equinox.
The delivery ceremony for the Equinox took place in Emshaven, Netherlands where the 2,850-guest ship was officially transferred from builder Meyer Werft to Celebrity Cruises.
The Equinox is part of Celebrity’s Solstice Class and the sister ship of the class’s inaugural ship, the Celebrity Solstice. A third member to the Solstice Class, The Celebrity Eclipse, is currently under construction and is scheduled to set sail in 2010.
The Celebrity Solstice class boasts unique amenities such as the lawn club (carpeted in real grass!), and a glass-blowing studio, and interactive attraction where you can watch pro glass blowers create works of art.
The Celebrity Equinox will enter service July 31st on an 8-night Norwegian Fjords cruise. Following that trip the Equinox will travel on several “Best of Europe” and “Ancient Empire” cruises before heading to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where it will alternate 10- and 11-night “Ultimate Carribean” cruises through 2010.
The 11-night voyages will stop in George Town, Grand Cayman; Cartagena, Colombia; Colon, Panama; Puerto Limon, Costa Rica; Roatan, Honduras; and Cozumel, Mexico. The 10-night sailings include calls on Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; Basseterre, St. Kitts; Bridgetown, Barbados; Roseau, Dominica; Philipsburg, St. Maarten.
